E is for Esbats

12 Mar

I’ve mentioned before that while I am no longer Wiccan, I really like the structure of Wiccan ritual. I like the calling of the elements, the symbolism of the tools, the balance of feminine and masculine.

So I thought, if we Kemetic Orthodox celebrate the cycles of the moon too, why can’t I do esbats for a Kemetic goddess. Immediately, I turned to Bast and Sekhmet, and was frowned upon. Solar goddesses. So who? I ask the universe. The New Moon belongs to Ptah-Sokar. Okay. And the full moon? The full moon belongs to Ptah-Sokar. So great. Now I have esbats centered around a god. I’m sure all my Wiccan friends will be amused by THAT.

But what about my feminine to balance the masculine? Well, you’re a girl. I know, I know Dad. But that’s not what I meant. Well, the Horned God isn’t lunar. So I should ask Sekhmet to be involved here? -cue a big lioness purr-

So, now that my gods have gone and reversed the entire freaking framework of Wicca, my elements are also being quietly changed too… ;.;

But I’m happy. Because this is my personal practice, being adapted. This is a way to get to know a side of Father that I don’t know, Ptah in His Name of Sokar. It’s confusing, and I have no doubt some people will scream WRONG, but I’m happy. Even if I’m confused, I am happy to have my gods.

    This is absolutely hilarious! Don’t’cha love when They do these kinds of things? :3 If it works, and you’re happy, and They’re happy, there’s nothing “WRONG” with it~

      I love Them so much, but it’s like last night with the Bast Flavored Smoothie – it’s making my mind bend in directions I didn’t expect!

    Sounds wonderful! Sokar is so interesting!! Oh I cant wait to know my lineup.. I come from a wiccan background too, I love the elements, masculine & feminine and balance in things, So I hope i can “work it out” with who ever turns up in my lineup 🙂 I tend to dedicate esbats to Djehuty and Nut.

      Hotep, Senka!

      I have no doubt that something will work out with your parents and beloveds! Plus, there’s no reason to cease working with outside gods. I’m just focusing on my four “personal gods” for now, and I’d been focusing on them anyway. 😉

    really interesting your reflections about a wiccan life versus a kemetic life makes me think that even the two have big different ways to work they can coexist if you have no trouble to do that

      Many people allow them to co-exist through Tameran Wicca, which I admittedly know very little about. However, the traditional Wheel of the Year – and a lot of concepts within Wicca (mind you that I’m from the I Read a Book Once tradition) don’t sit right with me when meshed with Kemetic beliefs. I’m a Kemetic first and foremost, so unfortunately, I’ve put Wicca aside. Hoping to find a coven one of these days…

      Still learning, ever learning, gods be good!
